One of the best ways to grow as an artist is to work regularly with another experienced artist who can see your work with fresh eyes to provide encouragement and direct feedback while understanding your specific goals and challenges. This one-on-one learning environment can expand your perspective, deepen your practical skills, and clarify your artistic direction.
That's why I'm excited to invite you to the Appleton Drawing Club Coaching Program! Unlike one-off evening workshops or classes with fixed lesson plans, this program is designed to provide ongoing support directly driven by your specific goals and challenge areas. This means the program is flexible for all experience levels and can cover a wide range of topics in the world of observational drawing and painting:
- Drawing and design fundamentals
- Deep dives into mediums like charcoal, ink, oil painting, and digital drawing
- Deep dives into genres like portraits, figures, landscapes, or still life
- Life drawing exercises and approaches
- Creative mindset and practice coaching
Whether you're an artist pursuing a professional practice, a life drawing enthusiast, or an art student of any age, coaching provides the creative encouragement, structure, and resources to help you grow.
How it works
- Each month, you'll share samples of your work via email along with relevant questions, challenges, and context about your personal goals and focus
- You'll receive a 30-60 minute video with critique, recommended exercises, and inspiring resources to support your next steps
- Includes a free registration to an Appleton Drawing Club open session each month
- $60 per month for the first students, pause or cancel any time! Spots are limited.

About your coach
I'm Kevin McGillivray, host and organizer of Appleton Drawing Club! I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and started oil painting in 2012 at the Gordon School of Art. A few years ago, I went to my first figure drawing session and became enchanted with the challenge and thrill of figure and portrait drawing. I haven't stopped since!
I started Appleton Drawing Club because I wanted to create an opportunity for other artists to have regular access to life drawing and the benefits of a creative community in a friendly, encouraging space. I'm grateful to have met so many artists and models at our events, and I hope to meet you too!
